Liberty University trains Champions for Christ in many fields ??? including dodgeball. Just ask Thomas Hinkley, a 2005 alumnus who recently won the Oct. 30 Richmond Chick-fil-A Charity Dodge Ball Tournament with a group of 10 Liberty staff members and students who call themselves Jerry Jr.’s Boys.

“We had a couple of good rounds and won the college division of the tournament,” Hinkley said.

The tournament raises money for Special Olympics Virginia Area 6 and Schools for Niger, Africa. More than 200 teams participated in the tournament.

Until this year, the highest Liberty’s team has placed is eighth. Their first-place prize was Chick-fil-A for a year coupons.

The team was organized four years ago by Danny Lamonte, a 2004 alumnus who currently works with Liberty’s Student Leadership office.

“We go to the tournament to have fun, but we also see it as an opportunity to proclaim the Lord to other people,” he said.
