Constitution Day speaker defends our nation’s founding principles

Bestselling author and president of Westminster Theological Seminary Dr. Peter A. Lillback spoke to students at Friday’s Constitution Day convocation about the relevance and importance of the Constitution.

“He is a leading expert on the foundational history of the United States, the intersection of faith, politics, government, and the public square, and on the separation of church and state," Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. said when he introduced him.

Lillback, who has also been a pastor and professor, is a frequent guest and spokesperson on television, radio, and in the mass media.

Lillback and Falwell met when they appeared alongside each other on the Glenn Beck TV show on FOX News twice this past summer. Streaming video of Friday morning’s convocation was available live on Glenn Beck’s Insider Extreme Network, www.glennbeck.com/extreme.

Lillback began his message by quoting Second Thessalonians 5:19: “Do not put out the spirit’s fire.” He used his knowledge of the life and legacy of George Washington to illustrate the passion and “fire” that Americans need to have for Christ and the Christian principles the founding fathers intended the United States to have.

“We need to hear again about the sacred fire, a burning passion that cares about what God has called us to do as a Christian people living in, in many ways, an unbelieving and secular world,” Lillback said.

Lillback is the author of national bestsellers “George Washington’s Sacred Fire” and “Wall of Misconception – Does the Separation of Church and State Mean the Separation of God and Government?” His children’s book, “Lessons on Liberty – A Primer for Young Patriots,” received a Silver Medal from the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards.

Lillback is passionate about defending the values America was founded on. He has spent many years researching our nation’s founding fathers and the history of the Judeo-Christian heritage of the United States. He also serves as president of The Providence Forum, a non-profit scholarly organization committed to preserving, defending and advancing the faith of our founding fathers.
