Dean of Students Office organizes field day for disabled residents

Staff members from the Liberty University Dean of Students Office organized and ran a field day for disabled adults in partnership with the Central Virginia Training Center (CVTC) on Tuesday, July 12. The event included games, activities, prizes, popcorn, and a music station.

About 35 volunteers engaged with the special needs community members, facilitating events while interacting and sharing Christ’s love with their neighbors. Liberty’s staff members also helped with setting up before and cleaning up after the event.

In the music station, Laura Adams, administrative assistant, enjoyed helping the individuals to experiment with instruments and to play and sing along with the songs.

“My heart was very touched by one resident of the facility (who had a hand disfigurement),” she said. “I slipped a small instrument in his hand, which, to my surprise, he was able to hold. He ended up participating for quite a while, smiling the whole time.”

She said that the office is planning to have another outreach event at CVTC in the fall.
