Dean of Students staff serves local elementary school
About 40 staff members from Liberty University’s Dean of Students Office volunteered on Tuesday at Heritage Elementary School, helping the custodial staff prepare the school for the fall.
The team focused on cleaning the cafeteria and hallways, including deep cleaning cafeteria chairs, washing walls, scrubbing grout, washing windows inside and outside, and assisting office staff.
According to Robert Mullen, dean of students, their department had been planning this event all summer. Many of the staff members were eager to give back to the community they are a part of.
“We wanted to, as an office, give back to our community in a tangible way,” Mullen said. “Our goal in this project is simply to serve the community in which we live, to represent the Lord and Liberty University in a positive way, and to build teamwork among our staff by serving together.”
The Campus Pastors Office, which is part of the Dean of Students Office, regularly dispatches outreach teams for community service throughout the summer. This, however, is the first office-wide event. Mullen said he hopes to make this effort a yearly event.
“We want to set the example of service for our students and in our community and share the message of Christ in a very tangible and practical way,” Mullen said.
