Student leaders preview Billy Graham telecast to air Thursday

Liberty University’s Office of Student Leadership presented a sneak preview of Billy Graham’s television program, “The Cross,” to some of its student leaders Tuesday, Nov. 5. Throughout the day, 240 resident assistants watched the film, which will air Thursday, Nov. 7 — Graham’s 95th birthday — on the FOX News Channel at 10 p.m. EST. Following the premiere, some Christian networks will also show the program.

President Jerry Falwell, Jr. and his wife, Becki, plan to attend Graham’s birthday celebration.

The film is part of the “My Hope America” series, a campaign by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to reach the entire nation with the Gospel through media.

The telecast features testimonies from Grammy Award-winning Christian rapper Lecrae and platinum recording artist Lacey Sturm.

Liberty RAs watch a sneak peek of Billy Graham's "The Cross."Liberty’s student leaders were encouraged to promote the event to the students on their halls and to the guests who will be visiting the campus for College For a Weekend Nov. 7-10.

“The video was amazing. It reminded me of the beauty of the Gospel, and that even though our lives are full of sin, Christ paid that price,” said junior Keren Handal. “It was beneficial for RAs to watch it first because it prepared us mentally and spiritually to be able to respond to the individuals on our halls who would come to us with questions about this film.”

Many Liberty students will have the opportunity to field questions and share the Gospel message with viewers at a campus call center provided by the university for the event. Students will man the center in shifts during the telecast and at various times throughout the weekend.
