Fall Family Weekend welcomes Liberty’s extended family

Every year, Liberty University welcomes parents and family members of current students to the campus for a weekend of activities, sponsored by the Parent and Family Connections Office. This weekend, Nov. 1-3, nearly 900 families — approximately 3,700 guests — are scheduled to attend Fall Family Weekend.

“The goal is for parents and families to reconnect with their Liberty student and to participate in the many activities and events we have made available to them,” said Theresa Dunbar, director of Parent and Family Connections. “We hope our parents will have a great love for our campus and get the sense that Liberty is the family’s university, not just their student’s.”

Friday night, families will enjoy dinner and a live performance by Liberty’s own Sounds of Liberty at the Family Banquet, held at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center in Green Hall. During the banquet, the Parent and Connections Office will present the annual Parent of the Year award, chosen from essays submitted by students.

Families can also attend their students’ classes, participate in a variety of recreational activities, including ice skating and an art expo, and support the Flames Football team on Saturday when it plays Virginia Military Institute as part of the Athletic Department’s Military Appreciation Day.

As a school that emphasizes the importance of the family, Liberty University cherishes the opportunity to express appreciation for its students’ greatest supporters — their families.

“Liberty recognizes the values and love parents have instilled into their sons and daughters prior to sending them to Liberty,” Dunbar said. “We want parents to know their students are not only receiving great academic opportunities here, but that we also extend opportunities for students to grow spiritually, and that we will come alongside of them as their students develop into young Champions for Christ.”

To register and view the full weekend schedule, go to the Parent and Family Connections Office website.

  • The Parent and Family Connections Office provides resources for parents of Liberty students to communicate with the university in order to support student success, promote an appropriate role for parents within the campus community, and generate goodwill for the university. The office also provides parents with information on university resources, campus events, and activities; the opportunity to interact with other Liberty families; and guidance during the transitional phase of becoming a supportive Liberty parent.
