Spiritual Emphasis Week impacts lives

Evangelist Clayton King addresses students in convocation Wednesday morning in the Vines Center.

Liberty University held its annual Spiritual Emphasis Week (SEW) this week, hosted by powerful evangelist Clayton King.

King speaks to over 200,000 college and high school students annually with his unique down-to-earth humor and spiritually challenging sermons.

Students started the week with an all night of prayer followed by a three-day stretch of five sermons meant to instill a spiritual focus for the year ahead. King spoke at convocation on Monday and Wednesday and at special services each night.

For some new students, the week introduces the fundamentals of Christian life, and for others it is used to deepen their spirituality. Staff from Liberty’s Student Care Office and student leaders in the dorms are available to help with students’ specific needs.

“It’s like a spiritual check-up, you come to see Doctor Jesus and He heals you,” Campus Pastor Johnnie Moore said in Wednesday’s convocation.

This year King spoke on topics such as conversion, the father heart of God and purity in relationships. On the first night, lives were drastically changed when more than 300 students surrendered their lives to Christ. King’s other three lessons offered practical ways to lead healthier relationships and fight the battle against depression.

“I encourage you today that when you’re at your lowest point this semester — feeling like you are at a foreign place surrounded by foreign people and you have no control over your life — you remember your God who crucified His own son so that you might be brought to be with Him,” King said.

With the help of Clayton King, Liberty students can now embark on the demanding journey of college life with a solid spiritual foundation that is sure to be a great help in times of struggle.

Spiritual Emphasis Week is just one of the many ways Liberty is meeting spiritual needs on campus. Read more about Liberty’s Spiritual Life Programs.
