The first-ever Liberty University Polar Plunge took place on Saturday at Camp Hydaway on Liberty Mountain. The event was sponsored by Liberty University Athletics and Ultimate LU in partnership with Virginia Special Olympics to help raise funds to meet area needs within the Lynchburg Special Olympics Program.

A new club sport is coming to Liberty University that will test students’ physical strength, flexibility, agility and coor-dination. Beginning in January, the university is adding gymnastics to its list of club teams. Practices will be held every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the Lynchburg Academy of Gymnastics & Power Tumbling located about three miles from LU on Leesville Road.

Liberty University fans who arrive early to Saturday’s football game against VMI in Lexington, Va., will be in for a special surprise. Liberty University Head Football Coach Danny Rocco took the stage at Friday’s convocation, encouraging students to come out to Saturday’s home contest against the Lafayette Leopards. “We need everybody in this facility today to be at that game tomorrow,” Rocco told a packed Vines Center.
