GOP’s Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry to visit Liberty

Liberty University announced on Friday that Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and Texas Gov. Rick Perry will speak at separate convocations in September.

Bachmann, who founded the Tea Party Caucus in the House of Representatives, has announced she will be running for the GOP nomination for president. Perry has said he is considering running.

Perry will speak on Sept. 14; Bachmann is scheduled to speak on Sept. 28.

“How well they are received at Liberty will be a good indicator for how they will be received in Christian circles nationwide,” Falwell said.

Past presidential candidates to visit Liberty have included Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul.

“Since Liberty is the world’s largest Christian university, we think it is important to expose the students to as many candidates as possible,” Falwell said.
