5 Ways to Stay Motivated

Staying motivated in the gym – as well as in school – tends to be a challenge that one comes across often. Speaking from experience, it’s easy to get excited about starting new; however, one may find themselves losing interest after only a few weeks. If you are struggling with staying motivated in and out of the gym – this post may be for you.
Here are FIVE things that will help you stay motivated:
1. Change your perspective.
Shift your mentality that working out is a chore, to that working out can be fun and rewarding. It isn’t as hard as you may think. It’s the same with homework; if you sit down and tell yourself that it will be rewarding once it is done, you will more than likely get it done and thank yourself afterwards. Every time that you use your time productively you will thank yourself for that in the end.
2. Set a (practical) goal.
It is extremely easy to get excited about something in the moment, and then get disappointed when things don’t go as you had planned. Most people fail at their fitness goals because they’re waiting for something miraculous to happen, but that is unfortunately not how it works. It often takes months for changes to show, so be patient and take things slow.
3. Create a schedule & stick to that schedule.
We know that being a college student can be difficult, and finding time to do certain things is even harder – just try to set aside 30 minutes to an hour each day, whatever works best! Whether it is in the morning before you start your day, or at night after you finish class. Even if you can only work out a few times a week, that’s totally fine! Just find a time that works for you, and stick to that.
4. Switch things up.
Like most people, you get bored after a while and need change. There is nothing wrong with changing things up every once in a while! Try a new workout. We have tons of fun group exercise classes that are available to you! You could take a hip hop dance class, you could try yoga, the options are pretty much endless. Find one that interests you and give it a go! Workout variety also challenges your body in unique ways, which may introduce you to new muscle groups you weren’t even aware that you had.
5. Find a workout buddy!
We cannot stress this one enough. Having someone else to keep you accountable is a game changer. If you have someone to workout with it gives you all the more incentive to go, as well as having someone else that can encourage / inspire you daily.
Good luck!
