Course Description
This course focuses on an introduction to nursing education, nursing process, principles of teaching and learning, the current roles of nurses in health care as well as the historical, ethical, political, social and legal aspects of nursing. This information is related to the curriculum requirements and career opportunities in nursing. Content also includes an introduction to Benner’s model and nursing as a ministry. It provides basic understanding of medical terms and abbreviations. Includes study of prefixes, suffixes, word stems, and technical terms with emphasis on proper spelling, pronunciation and applications. Elementary aspects of the nursing process with special emphasis on assessment are incorporated.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to submit a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 350 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and include at least 1 reference to the course textbook. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 1 classmate’s thread. Each reply must be at least 150 words.

Topic Selection and Reference Page Assignment
Write a paragraph of 50–100 words stating the state, region, country, or branch of the military you will complete your PowerPoint presentation on. Submit at least 4 references in current APA format that you will utilize for the project.
Final Assignment
Using your selected topic and an updated reference list, you will create a PowerPoint presentation of exactly 12 slides, not including the title and reference slides, in current APA format.

Professional Development Plan Assignment
The student will write a 2-page summary of his or her professional development plan for nursing in current APA format. The student must cite at least 1 scholarly source published within the last 5 years in addition to the course textbooks and Bible.

Quizzes (20)
Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Module. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes and have a 25-minute time limit. Quizzes 1–7 will contain 10 questions, Quiz 8 will contain 15 questions and Quizzes 9–16 will contain 25 questions. The types of questions will vary per quiz.
The Math quizzes will correlate with the textbook readings and power point presentations during Modules 10-14. Each Math quiz will contain 10 multiple-choice and fill in the blank questions and will have a 10-minute time limit with 1 attempt allowed.

Quiz: Mid-term Examination
The Quiz will cover the Learn material for Modules 9-13. This exam will be open-book/open-notes, contain 50 multiple-choice questions, and have a 1-hour time limit. The exam may be taken as many times as necessary, and the highest grade will be recorded.

Quiz: Final Comprehensive Examination
The Quiz: Final Comprehensive Examination will cover the Learn material for Modules 9-16. The Final Exam will be open-book/open-notes, contain 100 multiple-choice questions, and have a time limit of 1 hour and 40 minutes. The student will have 1 opportunity to complete this exam.
