Course Description

This course examines the design, selection, implementation and management of enterprise Business solutions. The focus is on identifying critical business processes and envisioning how technology can be developed to provide solutions which generate competitive advantage. Students learn how applying frameworks and strategies around the Business Process and Organization Strategy provide a competitive advantage. The course also includes a component for Technical Writing for Information Systems.

Rationale

This course is one of two cornerstone classes for future Information Systems, Information Technology, and Computer Science professionals. This course focuses on the tools and technologies that comprise information systems as well as the strategies for employing technology to achieve competitive advantage in business. The course provides an introduction to topics that are taught in subsequent computing classes, such as systems analysis and design, project management, web development, database design and development, networking, hardware and software, programming, human-computer interaction, and technical writing.

Course Assignment

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1.

The student will complete 3 (three) Discussions in this course.  Each Discussion is worth 50 points.

The student will complete 3 labs over the duration of this course. The labs will include

  • HTML—Website,
  • Excel Business Analtics–Personal Budget
  • UML—Use Case diagramming.

These activities that reinforce the materials presented in each module/week.

Each Lab is worth 50 points.

These quizzes will be open-book/open-notes and will consist of multiple-choice questions.

When taking this quiz:

  • The student will be given 30 minutes to complete
  • At the end of time, the quiz will automatically submit, even if the student is not done
  • The student may take the quiz up to three times and the highest grade will be recorded

Essay questions cover some topic in the chapter readings. These essays will be open-book/open-notes and will consist of 1 (one) question.

Format is a critical element in the essays. Be sure your essays are complete and have the following elements:

  1. Introduction paragraph
  2. Body paragraph(s)
  3. Conclusion (summary) paragraph
  4. APA reference (citations: Reference list and in-text citations)
  5. Accurate spelling and grammar

This cumulative quiz includes all the reading material covered in modules 1 through 4. This will be open-book/open-notes and will consist of 65 multiple-choice questions.

The student will have 90 minutes to complete the exam.

The exam is open book and use of AI is not allowed.
