BUSI101: Introduction to Business

Course Description

The student will study all of the major aspects of operating a modern business. Emphasis is given to business practice for both small business and large corporate enterprises.

Rationale

Introduction to Business will provide students with a general, broad understanding of the current business world and how it is changing, so they can relate to and function effectively within it.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be 300–500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 250–350 words.

The thread must include a Scripture reference and at least 2 scholarly, peer-reviewed sources, plus the course text, all in current APA format. Each reply must include a Scripture reference and at least 1 scholarly source, plus the course text, all in current APA format.

Connect Assignments (8)

Each student will complete a Connect assignment covering the chapters assigned in each Module: Week. The Connect assignments provide the student an opportunity to review concepts discussed in the reading material for the assigned Module: Week(s).

Biblical Integration Assignment

Using a provided template worksheet, the student will read a passage of scripture and then apply the concepts gleaned from the evaluation of that scripture to a business concept covered in the course reading and study materials. 

Small Business Evaluation Assignment

The student will identify a local small business with which they have interacted and provide an evaluation based on concepts from the course reading and study. A template is provided to guide the student through the assignment. 

Quizzes (4)

Each quiz will cover the reading material for the assigned modules. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 40 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 1-hour time limit.
