Course Description

This course is the second of three sequential flight training courses that include the requisite aircraft and simulator training and experience required for the FAA Commercial Pilot practical test. During this course, students will complete one third of the aircraft and simulator training and experience hours required in the applicable commercial pilot training course outline (TCO). This course requires in-person flight training for all programs, including the B.S. in Aeronautics, B.S. in Aviation, B.S. in Aviation Technology, and B.S. in Unmanned Aircraft Operations. Prerequisite Requirements*

  • AIR 3315 previously completed with a minimum grade of C
       and
  • AIR 3325 previously completed with a minimum grade of C
       and
  • VA Medical Certification completed with a minimum score of 10

Rationale

The purpose of AVIA 326 is to, in part (this is the second of three consecutive courses), prepare the student to complete the written FAA Part 141 Commercial Pilot Test, complete approximately 40 flight hours of the FAA Part 141 Pilot Syllabus, and to successfully pass the FAA Commercial Pilot in-flight check ride. The practical flight training consists of scheduled weekly flight lessons with an FAA Certificated Flight Instructor. These flight lessons include in-flight training, flight simulator training, as well as pre-brief and post-brief ground training. Completion of this course requires the successful completion of at least 66% of the Commercial Pilot Training Course Outline (TCO) at the applicate LU Flight Training Affiliate.

Video Discussion: Class Introductions

The student must submit a 2–3 minute video introduction. The student may use a multi-media platform of choice to record his/her video. However, Kaltura is recommended. Specific elements stated within the discussion prompt must be included. The student must also reply to at least 2 other classmates’ introductions. Each reply must contain at least 150 words, including a question or a relevant follow-up response to guide the discussion.

Video Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student must complete various Discussions in this course. Each student will post an initial thread of a video submission for the Discussions. In addition, the student must then post 2 replies of 150 words each. These are intended to be scholarly dialogues and for each thread, the student must support his/her assertions with 2 scholarly sources and 1 instance of biblical integration in APA format with sources listed as References at the end of the post.

As the student progresses through his/her Flight Training Syllabus at his/her Flight Training Affiliate, it is very important that the student stays on pace to complete the identified “Percent of TCO” requirement located within the instructions at the midway point in the course as well as before the end of course. To help the student stay fully aware of his/her own progress and to keep the professor informed, the student will upload the “Percent of TCO Form” verifying “percent of TCO” progress halfway through the course and before the final module of the course. This form will provide crucial information exchanged between all stakeholders (professor, student, and flight instructor/ FTA).

Reflection of TCO Paper Assignment

The student will write a 2-3 page paper (not including title and references) reflecting on his/her flight training experience. This experience includes both the academic work completed as well as the percent of TCO completed during flight training at the FTA.

The FTA Student Handbook provides essential information and requirements for the successful completion of the student’s flight training program. This quiz will ask the student to acknowledge that he/she has read the FTA Student Handbook provided to him/her in the SOA Flight Student Community as well as any and all information provided to the student within the Liberty University ATLAS website.

Quizzes: Flight Progress Report (8)

The Flight Course Progress Report helps the student track his/her progress through the Pilot Training Course Outline at his/her Flight Training Affiliate while keeping the professor informed of the training experience. This report serves as both a personal record of the flight training journey and a tool for the professor to monitor the student’s development. Staying on pace with course requirements is essential for successful completion by the end of the semester.

Quizzes: Stage Commercial (3)

The quizzes are designed to assess the student’s understanding and retention of course material as he/she progresses through the modules. Each quiz reinforces key concepts from both the current and previous modules, ensuring a comprehensive grasp of the material. These assessments help the student apply his/her knowledge while preparing for real-world aviation scenarios.
