This course explores the context and framework of modern interior design as it relates to decorative arts, material culture, furniture, and architectural styles and movements.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore the student will complete 4 discussions in this course. Threads submitted must be at least 250 words. The student will then submit 2 replies to his/her classmates, which must be at least 150 words.

Dorothy Draper Assignment

This assignment is designed to help the student understand and appreciate the work of those who came before in order to forge his or her own design aesthetic. The student will create an MP4/MP5 file using PowerPoint with a voiceover on the life and legacy of Dorothy Draper. The student should make a minimum of 12 slides that follow the titles provided in the assignment instructions, with the length of the video staying within 10 minutes or less. All sources must be cited in APA format. 

HGTV Programming Proposal Group Project Assignment

The student will work in a group of 2-4 students to research what types of programming HGTV currently employs in their television lineup and identify a hole. Then, the student will work with his or her group to create a detailed proposal to the network for a new show that fills this “hole”. The proposal should be no less than 700 words and follow the provided Microsoft Word template. 

Modern Design Movements Assignment

In this assignment, the student will research architectural and interior design movements from the early 20th century through today. The student will then identify, using the provided template, 15 design movements, their key designers, key attributes, what influenced the movement, and its lasting impact on current 21st-century design trends, if any. The project must include a cover sheet, index, an individual page for each of the 15 design movements, and the student should import no fewer than 4 unique images for each movement. 

Prairie Style Furniture and Decorative Arts Collage Assignment

In this assignment, the student will research design elements of Prairie Style Furniture and decorative arts items. The student will need to create a poster collage using no fewer than 8 images of furniture or decorative arts pieces and 4 close-up detail images that highlight key design elements. At the bottom of the page, the student should include his or her name, the class name, and the due date of the assignment. All text should be no larger than 18-point font, and there should not be more than 2 fonts used in the assignment.

This comprehensive test covers all the Learn material in the course. The quiz has 50 multiple choice, short answer, and true/false questions. The quiz has no time limit and allows 1 attempt.
