Rationale
Medical office assistants play a crucial role in healthcare, with one of the key responsibilities being medical office billing and bookkeeping. This course provides the necessary technical skills needed to perform this duty. The universal claim form CMS-1500, the carriers that submit the claim form, collections, payments, and accounts receivable will all be covered.

Discussion
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete 1 discussion assignment in this course. The student will post 1 thread of at least 700 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module: Week. The student must then post 2 replies of at least 150 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the assigned Module: Week. Each thread must incorporate at least 3 scholarly citations in current APA format and 1 news article. Any sources cited must have been published within the last 5 years. In-text citations and a corresponding formatted reference list must be provided. Acceptable sources include articles published in professional peer-reviewed journals, .edu or .gov websites, news agencies, or the textbook. Each discussion should include appropriate biblical integration as appropriate per the instructions.
Essay Assignments (5)
The student will complete 5 essays, each focusing on a specific concept from the Module: Week. The essays must be 350-450 words, contain 3-5 scholarly sources, and be in current APA format.
CMS-1500 Paper Assignment
The student will write a research-based paper that provides a contrast between the CMS-1500 (08/05) and the CMS-1500 (02/12). The paper must be 4–6 pages, include at least 4 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible, and be in current APA format.
Quizzes (3)
Quiz: Medicare and Medicaid, and Quiz: Managed Healthcare and Revenue Cycle will cover the Learn material from the specified Modules: Weeks. These quizzes will be open-book/open-notes, contain 25 multiple-choice questions, and have a time limit of 1 hour. Quiz: Cumulative Assessment will cover the Learn material from all Modules: Weeks, be open-book/open-notes, contain 50 multiple-choice questions, and have a time limit of 2 hours.
