5 Ways to Push Your Limit

The only thing that holds us back from meeting our goals is our limits. Once you have set some S.M.A.R.T. goals, you must prepare yourself to push your limits as you pursue your goals. While some limits can be physical, many limits are mental. Mental limits require a special mindset that enables you to not only test your limits, but overcome them.

Here are five ways that you can push your limits and reach your goals.

1. Challenge yourself by taking on a bit more than you believe you can

The process starts with practicing pushing yourself a little harder than you have before. In the past, you may have stopped once you reached a certain point in the pursuit of a particular goal. This time, try to take one extra step, a step you may have never attempted before. Sooner or later, that extra step becomes the new normal. As you continue to push yourself step by step, you will be progressing towards your goal faster than ever before.

2. Visualize yourself reaching the next level

Often, the best motivation is simply imagining what it will be like once you reach that goal. Now, take some of that motivation of reaching the end goal, and apply it to the various steps of the process. If you imagine yourself taking one extra step, and work hard to achieve that milestone within the pursuit of your end goal, you can summon a whole new form of motivation.

3. Surround yourself with people who will help push you

Your supporting cast can make all of the difference. Having just a little bit of extra support from friends and family can motivate you to keep pressing on despite your preconceived limits. Those people on your side can provide support when you are struggling with the occasional negative thoughts that accompany the pursuit of any goal. Having people in your corner who have your back can make a big difference.

4. Look up to those who have reached a goal like yours

No matter what you are working towards, someone else has likely been on the same journey you are now. Learn from their successes, so that you can see what steps they took that best helped them in the pursuit of their goal. Maybe more importantly, learn from their failures as well, so that you don’t have to make those same mistakes yourself.

5. Conquer your limits by conquering your weaknesses

Limits arise from weaknesses. Weaknesses certainly prevent you from reaching your end goal, but may also prevent you from even reaching milestones in the pursuit of your goal. If a weakness prevents you from reaching the first milestone on the way to meeting your goal, how will you ever meet that goal? Focus on finding and overcoming your weaknesses early in the process of pursuing your goal, so that no weaknesses, or limits, will stand in between you and your goal.

Fitness goals are a great example of a type of goal that is often inhibited by limits. On the other hand, fitness goals are also great examples of just the type of goal that can be reached when you find ways to break free from the chains of the limits that you’ve put on yourself, and pushed yourself harder than you ever have before.
