Student Advocates Association (SAA)

The mission of LUCOM-SAA is to support the student-doctors, establish positive relationships with members and promote the osteopathic profession and LUCOM within the community.

The organization consists of parents, spouses, students, faculty, administrative staff, and others. Currently, there are more than 50 members. Every month, members attend a general business meeting to vote on fundraising opportunities, philanthropy work, and student-doctor development.

LUCOM-SAA sends at least one of its members to the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)-OMED conference every year. The organization also attends the Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association (AAOA) conference and the National SAA Workshop annually.

Events

LUCOM-SAA plans, organizes, and hosts events for members and student-doctors. The goal is to encourage fellowship, educate members/student-doctors on issues, support local non-profit organizations and raise money for student-related causes like conventions.

Fellowship

LUCOM-SAA gives members and student-doctors plenty of opportunities to unwind and connect with one another throughout their journey. The organization believes fellowship among members and student-doctors helps to uphold the Christ-centered values of Liberty University and LUCOM.

Members hold “Student Exam Snack” events on exam days. Student-Doctors can enjoy treats on campus right after they finish their exams.

The organization works directly with the LUCOM-Office of Student Services to coordinate events throughout the year to encourage the students and offer support.

LUCOM-SAA also holds monthly and bi-weekly socials that are tailored to each individual’s needs. This allows LUCOM-SAA members to connect with other members that are in similar circumstances and share similar interests. Group activities vary each year based on the needs of the members but include Coffee Chats, Play Groups, and the Hospitality Committee. Even small gestures of encouragement, like a meal train for new parents or student-doctors in need, is organized by LUCOM-SAA. Members stay connected with each other and the LUCOM family to make sure help is available to those who need it.

Fundraisers

Participation in LUCOM-SAA fundraisers helps support the organization and its operation by sending student-doctors to conferences and providing coffee and snacks during events. View the current fundraisers and support LUCOM-SAA.
