International Elective Rotations for OMS-IV Students
Various opportunities for international elective rotations are available for OMS-IV students. Please see the LUCOM Catalog OMS-IV curriculum description regarding more details on maximum number of international rotation credits allowed, site and preceptor requirements, and timeframe for application (at least 150 days in advance).
Students must follow all standard rotation request procedures via the CORE platform, in addition to the specific international rotation considerations and requirements.
There are several avenues for international rotations at LUCOM:
- LUCOM-Organized Trip: Students approaching their fourth year can apply for a fully funded international rotation with Samaritan’s Purse and World Medical Mission. Students and faculty have participated in 4-week international rotations with Samaritan’s Purse in areas such as Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, and Togo. Students will need to apply for one of the fully funded spots with Samaritan’s Purse, and upon acceptance, must complete the rotation registration request in CORE. Dates and locations are dependent upon hospital availability and agreements in place.
- Independent International Rotation: Alternatively, students can pursue their own international rotation at a hospital/clinic with an existing affiliation agreement or request an affiliation agreement for a new international site via CORE. Once an agreement is in place, students must complete the rotation registration request in CORE. Independent rotations are self-funded and coordinated through the sending organization or site. Please see the CORE platform for a current list of affiliated international sites.
