One of the student-doctor organizations at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM) is celebrating after receiving a $1,000 grant from its national leaders.
Eric Carlson, D.O., the 2015-2016 President of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOOG) visited the Center for Medical and Health Sciences on Jan. 25, as part of the Visiting Professor program sponsored by ACOOG. The maternal fetal medicine specialist led a presentation on “Multiple Gestations”.
“The future leaders of the ACOOG are in the National Student Society-ACOOG school chapters,” said Dr. Carlson. “The ACOOG believes it is important that the students know that the college cares about them and want to encourage them in their professional endeavors.”
The $1,000 grant is intended for club activities throughout the year, including community outreach projects and awareness campaigns about women’s health issues.
“Since each student organization is allotted student funds based on membership numbers, and with ACOOG being one of the smaller organizations, this donation will be extremely helpful for us,” said LUCOM-ACOOG President Victoria Starr, class of 2018. “We hope to leave next year's student officers with funds already in the bank to help them start off the year right.”
