Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM) congratulates Jason Sneed, DO, as he has been named one of the Top Emerging Leaders in 2019 by the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF). The recognition comes as an acknowledgment of his efforts within the first five years of practice and in the osteopathic profession as voted by state peers. He also serves as the Ethics and Membership chairman with the Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association (VOMA) and was a welcomed guest at this year’s White Coat Ceremony honoring the Class of 2023.
Dr. Sneed opened his own osteopathic practice in 2013 – Old Dominion Osteopathic Medicine in Fredericksburg, Va. – as a single physician, family-run business. From the beginning of his career, his priority was to treat patients holistically to help their bodies heal naturally. “In my practice, I mainly do osteopathic manipulation. But in addition to that, I take the time to discuss what is going on in their lives, as many times, these things are affecting the ailments that they have,” said Dr. Sneed.
Before entering medical school, Dr. Sneed wasn’t sure what an osteopathic physician was and how it differed from traditional medicine. It was during an interview for acceptance into an allopathic medical school that left him with the impression that patient interaction and holistic care wouldn’t be a priority. He then discovered osteopathy. “Upon reading up on the philosophy and osteopathic approach I knew it was right for me and I will certainly say the interview experience at the osteopathic schools was so much more agreeable to the type of physician I wanted to become,” he added.
A native from Virginia, Dr. Sneed earned his medical degree from Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008. He completed his residency in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment at Fireland’s Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, OH, and an additional specialty residency in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, ME. He is Board Certified by both the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine.
Since 2017, Dr. Sneed has been affiliated with LUCOM teaching Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) and Family Medicine to Liberty third-year osteopathic medical students. “Dr. Sneed is a renaissance physician. He has a heart for people and enjoys the full scope of primary osteopathic health care,” said Peter A. Bell, DO, dean of LUCOM. “He understands the principles and practices of restoring health and maintaining it.”
Dr. Sneed regularly hosts shadowing opportunities for pre-medical students and hands-on rotations for OMS-IV medical students, including Liberty osteopathic medical students. “I love having medical students in my office. At this point, I am precepting over a dozen students per year. It provides me a chance to share what I have learned over the years and my passion for Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments (OMT),” he said. “Many of my patients look forward to see students as well and often encourage them to pursue a career that includes osteopathic manipulation.”
Congratulations Dr. Sneed on your recognition by the American Osteopathic Foundation.
