“You are not here by accident.”
In one small sentence, Thomas Road Baptist Church senior pastor Jonathan Falwell summarized an encouraging message at the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM) weekly convocation on September 30.
Falwell started off by talking about his father, the late Jerry Falwell, Sr., and the vision he had years ago to open a medical school at Liberty University.
“When he started talking about that, people said, ‘you can’t do that… it takes too much money… it takes too much effort.’ I think whenever people told my dad, ‘you can’t do that’ it made him want to do it more,” said Falwell.
Pastor Falwell says the addition of a medical school was what his father felt would be a “capstone moment.”
“While he didn’t get to live to see this come to fruition, I believe he is in heaven looking down right now pleased with what God has done,” said Falwell.
Pastor Falwell also focused on Judges chapter 6 to talk to student-doctors about those times in their lives, especially during the stressful years of medical school, where their faith is challenged and they lose perspective on what God is trying to do.
“God has not called anyone to live in defeat,” said Falwell.
