LUCOM visits local-private college

On Thursday, February 27, Liberty University College of
Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM) sent Michael Hueber D.O.,
to visit local-private college, Lynchburg College, to speak
to their Pre-Med Club about preparing for medical school.
Dr. Hueber serves LUCOM as the Chair of the Department
of Family Medicine.

Desiree Laughlin, president of the Pre-Med club majoring
in Biomedical Science, commented on the event:
“Dr. Hueber presented great information about the new
medical school. His presentation was personal and
allowed for great interaction back and forth.”

While only a fifth of the Pre-Med Club’s members were present, Dr. Hueber preferred it that way. “I prefer smaller presentations as it becomes more personal allowing interaction back and forth,” said Dr. Hueber. “If I use charts and bullet points, I lose a chance to be real.”

Dr. Hueber also addressed LUCOM’s expectations when accepting students into the program. “Having the grades and scores are essential for medical school, but they are not the only attributes taken into consideration,” said Dr. Hueber. “We want to know our student-candidates, figure out who they are. See if their motivation in life parallels the mission of the medical school by serving the underserved and reflecting Christian virtues, such as integrity, ethics, and compassion.”

Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine will welcome its inaugural class August 2014.
