Biography

Dr. Bauer graduated from St. Norbert College as a double major and received a BS in Biology and a BS in Psychology, both in 1978. He then received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1985 and served as a NIH Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the Mayo Graduate School.

The general focus of Dr. Bauer’s Lab in the Center for Research is to understand the immunological regulation of gastrointestinal function in specific disease states, including sepsis, bacterial dysentery, trauma, postoperative ileus, inflammatory bowel disease, and intestinal transplantation. Abstracts of published works can be obtained on PubMed; there are currently five active research projects being developed.
