The Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) Residency program at the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM) equips physicians to become leaders in clinical practice, medical education, and scholarly research.
You’ll have the opportunity to care for patients of various ages with diverse backgrounds and medical diagnoses. Our faculty have diverse treatment styles while upholding the holistic mind, body, spirit approach. In addition to growing your skillset in OMT, clinic experiences include:
- Ultrasound guided injections including Platelet Rich Plasma and Prolotherapy
- Perineural injections/ Scar infiltrations
- Athletes of all levels including Division I and professional
- Sideline sports coverage
- Lactational education with a NABBLM-certified ONMM physician
- Infant and toddler populations with strong community demand
- Pregnancy-related OMT with a great referral base
- Exercise prescription
In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in quality improvement projects, work with medical students in the clinical setting, and teach in the OPP lab.
Heart of Virginia
LUCOM ONMM Residency is located in historic Lynchburg, Va., nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Through Liberty University, there is access to state-of-the-art recreational facilities and a variety of cultural and athletic events. Lynchburg itself boasts outdoor recreation such as hiking and boating as well as multiple museums and restaurants. It is a great place for a family and feeling part of a community!
ONMM Residency
LUCOM ONMM Residency, equips physicians to become leaders in neuromusculoskeletal medicine. The continuity clinic includes in-house x-ray and portable ultrasound for improved patient experience. It is located in a healthplex alongside Sports Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Primary Care Providers, Endocrinology, and physical therapy, enhancing collaborative care.
The Residency has a robust didactic curriculum in a small group format. There is ample time learning anatomy in the cadaver lab, musculoskeletal ultrasound, infant/pediatric diagnoses and treatment, and an osteopathic approach to athletics. Additionally, the program offers a robust weekly lab, led by attendings with a hands-on focus on advancing proficiency in OMT and a wide range of procedural skills. Learners also have the opportunity to engage in a dedicated monthly Sports Medicine Series, providing targeted training for those seeking to further develop their expertise in the Sports Medicine discipline.
Qualifications
LUCOM ONMM Residency is seeking candidates for entry into the Residency ONMM1, ONMM2, and ONMM3 years. Our ACGME-accredited program participates in the NRMP match for ONMM1 with applications received and reviewed through ERAS. ONMM2 candidates with an approved ONMM1 internship, and ONMM3 candidates are taken outside of the Match. Successful candidates will be motivated to further develop their specialized clinical skills in ONMM, grow as teachers in medical education, and have a keen interest in developing leadership skills.
