A Congressional initiative requires that educational institutions receiving federal funding from the U.S. Department of Education “shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution.” (PL 108-447, “Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2005,” Dec. 8, 2004; 118 Stat. 2809, 3344-45 (Sec.111).
To accomplish this, Liberty University:
- Provides information and events related to the Constitution each year
- Developed this website to serve as a 24-hour resource for students using informational tools including sources recommended by the U.S. Department of Education [Federal Register: May 24, 2005 (Volume 70, Number 99)]
2020 Commemoration Activities
- A public web announcement was made on Thursday, September 17, 2020. This was completed through a public, departmental, and social media announcement through Facebook and Yammer. Each of these announcements encouraged students to remember the sacrifice and blessing we have as a nation thanks to our Founding Fathers from 232 years ago.
- The Student Service Center in Green Hall at Liberty University displayed posters that included the significance and importance of the U.S. Constitution.
