Liberty University Art Museum

Our exhibits are free and open to the public.

As one of the cultural hubs on campus, the Liberty University Art Museum offers students and the community the opportunity to experience the beauty and essence of art.

Featuring 30-foot ceilings, state of the art technology, and a professional hanging system, the museum has been used to display the work of some of the nation’s most talented artists. Featured guests have included renowned landscape painter David Heath, Spanish artist Alvar Sunol Munoz-Ramos, comic book artist, Sergio Cariello, and The Fairly OddParents cartoon artist, Butch Hartman.

The work of local artist, the late Macel Falwell, wife of Liberty founder, Dr. Jerry Falwell, is also on display.

Barbara A. Engstrom Art Gallery

Housed within the Liberty University Art Museum, the Barbara A. Engstrom Art Gallery features Engstrom’s paintings in addition to glass and sculpted figures and photography collected from her travels to 99 countries. The Barbara A. Engstrom Gallery will be a permanent exhibit within the Liberty University Art Museum. An accomplished artist herself, Engstrom wrote a book, “Faith to See,” that was displayed in the Louvre in Paris and is now available within the museum.

Past Exhibits

Permanent Collection

The Liberty University Art Gallery opened with its inaugural exhibition in Fall 2009. A painting from that show, a landscape by David Heath, was donated to the university and became the first piece in Liberty’s permanent collection. Since then, the patrons and artists have continued to donate unique works of art to our collection. The Blue Ridge Plein Air Painters donated six pieces to Liberty’s art gallery in the summer of 2013.

The “Foundations: Building the Liberty University Art Collection” exhibit featured paintings by Lois Virginia Babb, Christopher Burch, David Heath, L. Diane Johnson, Christine Kidd, Rodney Laughon, Kathy Seek, Dennis Sheehan, William P. Stork, and Charley Turner.

In January of 2022, the Barbara A. Engstrom art bequest became a part of the permanent collection. On October 20, 2022, the Liberty University Art Museum was officially dedicated.

Liberty continues to showcase works from its permanent collection during annual summer and winter exhibits.

As our collection grows, it will continue to provide an environment for cultural and academic enrichment for the university, region, and nation.

Hours vary due to holidays, theater productions, and class schedules. Call (434) 592-7629 to book a private tour.
