Our team is made up of several dedicated divisions, all working to keep Liberty University safe and protect our entire campus community. They are here for the student body, faculty, and staff. Your safety is our mission.
LUPD Organizational Chart
Road Patrol
The Liberty University Police Department Road Patrol consists of 30 Virgina certified law enforcement officers. Road Patrol operations consist of four squads, which patrol Liberty University’s campus and off-campus locations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A Patrol Sergeant supervises each squad and Patrol Lieutenants serve as shift commanders.
Each officer is assigned to patrol a specific area of the campus, called zones. Our officers take ownership of these zones to address public safety issues, traffic concerns, criminal activity, and quality of life issues for the Liberty University Campus Community.
Security Services
The Liberty University Police Department Security Services consists of 47 Virgina certified armed security officers. Security Service operations consist of three shifts, with Security Service Officers assigned to academic buildings, Reber Thomas Dining Hall, Jerry Falwell Library, off-campus properties, and other locations hosting large crowds and special events. Shifts are supervised by Security Services Sergeants, and a Security Services Lieutenant serves as the Commander.
K-9 Unit
The Liberty University Police Department K-9 Unit is comprised of three K-9 Teams – each team consisting of a police officer and their police service dog (K-9) who is trained and certified in explosive detection. The K-9 Unit conducts security checks for explosives at venues hosting special events and often assists other agencies with explosive detection. K-9 Teams conduct weekly training and receive annual certification through the Virgina Police Work Dog Association (VPWDA).
Training Unit
The Liberty University Police Department Training Unit provides comprehensive training for our workforce. Our Training Unit provides several firearms, scenario, and classroom-based trainings each year. The Training Unit is supervised by the Training Sergeant, who is responsible for the creation, coordination, and record keeping of all department training.
Records
The Liberty University Police Department Records Unit is responsible for maintaining, properly documenting, and storing all police records and reports for internal and external use. Records such as police reports, traffic accident reports, and traffic citations, may be requested via-email or on-line.
Investigations unit
The Liberty University Police Department Investigations Unit is primarily responsible for conducting follow-up investigations for crimes that occur within Liberty University Police Department’s jurisdiction. Detectives assigned to the Investigations Unit receive advanced training in a variety of investigative techniques. In addition to investigating crimes Detectives also work closely with Title IX and serve on the CARE Team.
Intelligence Unit
The Liberty University Police Department Intelligence Unit proactively gathers intelligence and conducts threat assessments in accordance with the mission of keeping the Liberty University Community safe. The Intelligence analyst assigned to the unit also works closely with the Virgina State Police Fusion Center gathering information on crime trends, criminal and terrorist organizations, and threats to the Liberty University Campus.
School Resource Unit
The Liberty University Police Department School Resource Unit’s main responsibility is to protect students and staff at the Liberty Christian Academy (LCA) and the Early Learning Center (ELC). In addition, officers assigned to the School Resource Unit provide support and education to prevent substance abuse, bullying, peer pressure, and other ethical issues.
