Branded Apparel, Uniform, and Giveaway Policy

POLICY STATEMENT

Liberty University invests significant resources into its academic and student programs as a high-profile branding opportunity supporting the mission of the university. It is for that reason our staff must support the institution’s desires to prioritize use of Primary Colors, Logos and Wordmarks. These guidelines allow some flexibility in color choices, but all apparel must still highlight Liberty’s primary palette to ensure a consistent and professional look across the university. Ultimately, University Marketing continues to provide oversight of all Liberty branded materials and will have the final approval for any exceptions.

In order to better define its Uniform/Staff Gear Policy and lend more clarification on apparel related items, the following has been approved specific to university academic and staff units:

  • Items purchased with university funds should be designed with primary colored (red, navy, white) base stock and branded with Liberty’s trademarks. If primary colors are used, single-color branding may be used (white on red/navy; red/navy on white). Full color branding is always an option. Figure 1.
  • In order to provide some flexibility, light or medium gray base stock is an option for apparel Full- and one-color primary brand ink options can be used. It is also expected that primary colored items are already a part of the inventory so that the color palette is represented in each office space. Figure 2.
  • Black is not a base stock option for “uniforms,” staff gear, student gear, or giveaways without an exception. If there are compelling reasons to use black (ie-backstage staff at events) an exception can be requested which will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If an exception is granted, the branding should be in full-color (red, navy, white). Figure 3.
  • Light blue is not an option for “uniforms,” staff gear, student gear, or giveaways. This is reserved for Athletics/Club Sports and retail in the university bookstore.
  • Colors that are not part of the university color palette should not be requested as an option – purple, green, yellow, orange, brown, maroon, teal, pink, olive, etc. If safety colors (yellow/ orange) are required, that is an established exception.

Any questions or concerns should be emailed to Branding@liberty.edu.
