Program Expectations & Advising Resources for the M.A.T. in Special Education: Early Childhood Special Education and General Curriculum Special Education

The M.A.T. in Special Education, Early Childhood Special Education and General Curriculum Special Education is designed for individuals who do not have an initial teaching license. This is the perfect program for individuals interested in earning licensure endorsements in the following two areas:

  • Early Childhood Special Education (Ages 2 – 5)
  • Special Education General Curriculum (K – 12th Grade)

Field experience requirements will be completed early and often in the field of special education and culminates in two 16-week student teaching semesters. Licensure in the state of Virginia requires that you meet all necessary criteria.

Upon successful completion of Liberty University’s Virginia state-approved M.A.T. program, you may apply for your teaching license in another state through reciprocity, which may or may not result in additional requirements based on your state’s Department of Education regulations. For state approval information, visit www.Liberty.edu/StateApprovals.
