Oil Painting by Dr. Pat Mercer Hutchens
As a woman and mother, I can see into this women’s heart. She cannot fathom what she or her children could have done to deserve these horrors. A plaintive look on her face, cries out, “why?” One stunning answer to that question is found in Elie Wiesel’s book, “Night:” “Today, thanks to recently discovered documents, evidence shows that in the early days of their accession to power, the Nazis…set out to build a society in which there simply would be no room for Jews. Toward the end of their reign, their goal changed: they decided to leave behind a world in ruins in which Jews would seem never to have existed.” Today many of Israel’s enemies have the same goal.
