Born in Terre Haute, on the banks of the Wabash River in central Indiana, Dr. Lowe has served various local church ministry positions before starting his academic career in Christian higher education in 1984. His academic and research interests include the ecology of spiritual formation, missional church, and Pauline theology. Dr. Lowe enjoys sports, movies, and target shooting along with occasional visits to antique shops.

Dr. Lowe and his wife, Dr. Mary Lowe, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, live in Concord, Virginia with their pet Beagle Zeke. They have three grown children and five grandchildren.
