Residential Students Requesting Online Courses
Students who wish to register for Liberty University Online courses should review the following information carefully before proceeding with registration.

The vast majority are 8-week, online courses taken completely via Learning Management System (i.e. Canvas). They are fast-paced for the self-motivated student with a lot of reading and writing (assignments due every week). LUO courses are part of the student’s official academic record and are calculated into their cumulative GPA. Students may NOT take foundational classes such as: ENGL 100, CLST 100 & 101, MATH 100 & 110 in the online format.
The student must be a current Liberty residential student, and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. New freshmen and first semester transfer students are not eligible. Transfer students may appeal for an exception to the Associate Registrar for Residential Undergraduate students at firstname.lastname@example.org. Approval is not guaranteed. If the student has a hold on his or her account that prevents registration, this must be resolved before the student may register.
Residential students taking online courses have the same tuition structure whether the courses are online or residential. Block-rate tuition allows a student enrolled in 12-18 hours to pay the block-rate. The student will be responsible for the additional tuition charged for any credit hours above 18 in the spring or fall semesters. Summer tuition is billed by the credit hour.
After the request has been received by the Registrar’s Office, it will be processed within 1-2 business days and the student will receive an email at his or her Liberty address, with information regarding the addition of the new course. The student will also receive an email if the request is denied, along with the reason for the denial. Once registered, the course will appear immediately on the student’s schedule. However, it will not show up on LMS until 4-5 days before the start of the course term (see the Dates and Deadlines link below for term start date). At that time, access will be available to the course on LMS so that the content can be reviewed by the student to determine whether or not he or she would like to remain in the class or to drop it before the course begins.

The Liberty Online Bookstore/Barnes & Noble College offers new and used textbooks available for purchase. Please order these in plenty of time before class starts so that the materials are obtained by the first day of the class. Some books for online courses may be available at the on-campus Barnes & Noble Bookstore. Residential book vouchers cannot be used towards purchases at Barnes & Noble College. Keep in mind that the required books for the online courses may not be the same as the required books for the residential class.

The course must be accessed within the first three days of class and the Course Requirements Checklist (CRC) must be completed or the class will be dropped due to non-attendance. Completion of the CRC equates to attending the class, and you will not be permitted to drop the class once completed unless it is within the residential add/drop week for A and B term online classes. The student must follow course deadlines as outlined by the instructor. After the student has “attended” the class, if no academic work is submitted to LMS or communicated with your instructor about an academically related subject for 21 days consecutively, the student will be unofficially withdrawn from the class and will receive a grade of FN for non-attendance.
9. Drop policy
Online courses must be dropped prior to the course start date. An exception is made for residential students during add/drop week for A and B term online classes only. The student must submit his or her drop request directly to the Registrar’s Office on the Add/Drop Form for Residential Student Taking Online Courses. Online classes cannot be added and dropped via the Course Registration Tool.
After the option of dropping the class has passed, the student may request to withdraw from the course up until the last day of the class (this is different than residential classes). When the student withdraws from a class, a grade of “W” will be placed on his or her academic record. To submit a course withdrawal request, a withdrawal form must be completed and submitted to the Registrar’s office, or an online withdrawal form can be completed through the Registrar’s forms page.
The student may not take the same course twice in the same semester. This means: the student may not withdraw from his or her residential course and take the same course online in the same semester. The student may not withdraw from his or her B or C term online class and register for the same online class in the D term of the same semester.
If the student withdraws from an online course, the tuition for the course will not be removed from the student’s account and this must be paid in full. Therefore, if the student withdraws from one class and adds a different Liberty University Online course within the same semester and his or her billing hours go above the full-time status of 18 hours, he or she will be responsible for payment of each hour over the full-time limit.
