Earn Dual Teaching Endorsements with Liberty’s M.A.T. in Special Education – General and Adapted Curriculum

Have you been seeking a licensure-track education degree that lets you earn endorsements in more than 1 area? Look no further! Thanks to Liberty University’s Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Special Education – General Curriculum and Adapted Curriculum with a Career and Technical Education (CTE)-Transition and Special Needs add-on endorsement, you can gain multiple valuable endorsements that are designed to help you serve your students better and increase your marketability as a special education teacher.

What’s included in this degree?

  • The general curriculum endorsement can help you learn how to teach students with disabilities who follow the general K-12 curriculum.
  • The adapted curriculum endorsement will provide training on how to teach students with moderate to severe disabilities through a curriculum that is customized for their needs.
  • You can also earn the add-on endorsement for career and technical education (CTE)-transition and special needs – which incorporates technical and occupational knowledge to help students with disabilities transition into independent living, the professional workplace, or postsecondary education.

Liberty has designed this special education program to meet rigorous state requirements. You normally must get your initial teaching license and then return to school later if you’d like to earn additional endorsements. However, our experienced faculty have designed this special education master’s to meet the required competencies for multiple endorsements, so you can get all the credentials you need in the same degree program.

By earning Liberty’s online M.A.T. in Special Education – General Curriculum and Adapted Curriculum with CTE-Transition and Special Needs, you can become equipped to pursue your career goals and meet licensure-track content requirements for special education.

Upon successful completion of Liberty University’s Virginia state-approved Master of Arts in Teaching program, you may apply for your teaching license in another state through reciprocity, which may or may not result in additional requirements based on your state’s Department of Education regulations. You can research your state’s licensure requirements here: https://www.liberty.edu/statelicensure/.

What Will You Learn in Our M.A.T. in Special Education Degree?

  • Current trends in the education field
  • Educational behavior and development
  • Methods of teaching and classroom management
  • Theories and methodologies of education

The general curriculum endorsement can teach you how to provide individualized support and care for students with mild disabilities. Through the adapted curriculum endorsement, you can learn how to offer specialized education support to students with significant disabilities. Additionally, you can explore how to create lesson plans and provide intellectual stimulation for students with special needs while encouraging growth. You can also study how to make decisions about student progress, instruction, programs, placement, and transitional services as you prepare your students for further education or entry into the workforce.

Through your practicums and student teaching, you will apply what you learn under the mentorship of an experienced special education teacher in a classroom near you.
