Nine Liberty University School of Education doctoral graduates and faculty members presented their research on some of the most pressing issues in education at the 2025 Virginia Educational Research Association and Virginia Professors of Educational Leadership Conference Sept. 25-26 in Richmond, Va.

Liberty had a larger representation than any other institution at the event. The university’s presenters spoke on multiple topics, covering everything from navigating problems related to student mental health to literary instruction differences between kindergarten and first grade, recommendations for instructional improvements for international schools in Nairobi, Kenya, and more.
Several Liberty graduates presented their findings virtually, while others traveled from out-of-state to attend in person.
School of Education Director of Accreditation and Assessment Dr. Nancy DeJarnette said the conference gave Liberty’s faculty and alumni the chance to demonstrate the important contributions they are making in the field of education.

“Just as in any field, we want to be at the top of our game,” said Dejarnette, who currently serves as secretary for both VERA and VPEL. “If you are going to be a faculty member at an institution of higher education, then you need to know your craft and be involved in latest research so you can lead others and have an impact in the field.”
DeJarnette said doctoral students are prepared and equipped in their programs to conduct and share research long after they graduate, not just while pursuing their degree.
“It says a lot that we had so many representatives at this conference. Liberty’s doctoral program is top notch. Our graduates and faculty are willing to get out there and share their research.”
The School of Education offers multiple doctoral programs through Liberty University Online Programs, including Ed.D. offerings in curriculum and instruction, elementary education, secondary education, special education, educational leadership, higher education administration, and more; and Ph.D. offerings in educational law, organizational leadership, educational research, student affairs, and more.
DeJarnette said through continued participation in highly respected conferences, Liberty can offer its voice on upcoming policy changes, challenges, and trends in the field.
“I am a firm believer that as faculty representing Liberty University, we need to be present in the marketplace and have a seat at the table where public educational policy is fashioned and debated in order to speak truth and represent Christ in the public square.”
