The Liberty University Symphony Orchestra (LUSO) is an auditioned instrumental ensemble consisting of string, winds, brass, and percussion instrumentalists. The ensemble exists to provide students with an educational experience performing great works of standard repertoire, as well as contemporary and commercial music works, in preparation for careers in music performance.
The LUSO is the premiere orchestral ensemble on campus, performing multiple concerts each semester including collaborations with the School of Music Choirs in Christmas on the Boulevard and the Annual Night of Worship in the Spring. Students not seeking a career in music are welcome to join this group by audition to experience musical development and personal enrichment.
Every member should have the understanding that each contributes to the overall success of this organization through dedicated practice, regular attendance of rehearsals and concerts, and a spirit of humility and service to one another. The goal of this group is to help student musicians develop the highest caliber of musicianship in an ensemble setting in preparation for professional performance opportunities in orchestral ensembles throughout the country and the world.
Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester. The one-credit hour course (MUSC 185/485) is open to both music majors and non-majors for credit. To audition, contact Dr. Kathryn Wert at firstname.lastname@example.org.
