Biography

Derek Grant Martin serves as an Associate Professor of Theatre at Liberty University. He most recently came from his home state of Massachusetts as a Professor of Practice at Stonehill College.

He has also served as founder and Chairman of the BA Theatre and BA Creative Arts Program as a Tenured Associate Professor at Jessup University, and as faculty in the BA and MFA programs at Regent University. He has spent the last 25+ years as an award-winning actor, director, choreographer, producer, tap-dancer, musician, singer, educator, speaker, and consultant working professionally in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment.

Derek has worked professionally at many recognized theatres including Sacramento Theatre Company, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, The York Theatre Company (NYC), Virginia Stage Company, Virginia Musical Theatre, the historic Palace Theatre (Manchester, NH) and The Musical Theatre of Connecticut. Derek has directed, choreographed, or acted in such shows as Singin’ in the Rain, The Music Man, The Man of La Mancha, Moonlight and Magnolias, The Crucible, Treasure Island, The Three Musketeers, West Side Story, The Secret Garden, Hello Dolly, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Crazy for You, Peter and the Starcatcher, Guys and Dolls and Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s – Oklahoma! He had a lead role in the multiple award-winning short film, The Noble Lie, has choreographed Broadway veteran Carol Jaudes in her one-woman international tour of And Sarah Laughed with the Salvation Army, and performed as “Chris” in the table-read cast of CBN’s hit animated series, SUPERBOOK!

Derek is Artistic Director and Founder of the professional summer theatre company – The Americana Theatre Company in Plymouth, MA. He is an ordained pastor and head of The December Collective and chairman of the Board for G.L.O.B.A.L. JUSTICE, a biblical justice advocacy group and resource.
