Taught from a Christian worldview, classes in Liberty’s Theatre Arts Department emphasize storytelling and the development of skills required for employment in the industry.
Choose from a BFA in Musical Theatre, a BFA in Acting, a BA or BS in Theatre Arts. And now, any major can add on a minor in Dance and Theatre Arts.

Theatre Arts Degrees
BFA in Musical Theatre
Develop your craft by concentrating on music, dance, and acting. You will have the opportunity to audition for the academic shows produced each year between the Tower Theater and The Black Box Theatre as well as the professional arm of the department, the Alluvion Stage Company.
BFA in Acting
Develop your craft by focusing on a variety of acting styles and periods as well as stage combat, movement, and dialects and accents. You will have the opportunity to audition for the academic shows produced each year between the Tower Theater and The Black Box Theatre as well as the professional arm of the department, the Alluvion Stage Company.
Theatre Generalist Degrees
Prepare for a wide range of theatre-based careers with a BA or BS in Theatre from Liberty University. Through these generalist degrees, you’ll receive practical instruction in the theory and practice of theatre performance and production.
Theatre Arts Minors
Enhance your major with a minor in Dance or Theatre Arts from the Department of Theatre Arts at Liberty University. Minors are 15-24 credit hours and help to broaden your degree program.

Drama Outreach Trips
Use your skill sets to share the Gospel through drama outreach trips. Our team is uniquely qualified to assist the local ministry through drama in sharing the Gospel in ways that overcome language barriers as well as encourage and strengthen community relationships. Gain experiential learning within your craft as you have the opportunity to plan, direct and perform in ways that transcend both language and cultural barriers.

State-of-the-Art Stage Facilities
The Department of Theatre Arts produces six productions each season between our two stages: the Tower Theater and The Black Box Theater. The Tower Theater seats 640 and houses over 12,000 square feet of backstage and support area. Home to the Alluvion Stage Company and Liberty’s Department of Theatre Arts, the Tower Theater features a Broadway-style fly tower, a professional rigging system, catwalks, a balcony, and an orchestra pit. The Black Box Theater offers flexible seating in a more intimate space, allowing students and audiences alike the opportunity to experience theater in a new and exciting way.

-LU Praise is a group of dynamic musicians dedicated to glorifying God through testimony, song, and worship. Members come to Liberty University from across the United States and other nations as a community of worshipers dedicated to spreading the Gospel through music. LU Praise is a multi-ethnic gospel choir devoted to leading God’s people in genuine, heartfelt worship. The team uses ethnic and musical diversity to proclaim of the Gospel through song, the Word of God, testimony, and service.
HARLAN PENN
Scenic Designer
-Harlan D. Penn is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. The South Florida native has designed for off-Broadway, Off Off Broadway, cable television, regional theatre, and educational theatre. In addition, Penn has served as an Art Director and Assistant Art Director for film & television productions for NETLIX, HULU, ABC/DISNEY, NBC, HALLMARK MOVIE CHANNEL, CBS and TURNER BROADCASTING. Mr. Penn has served as assistant scenic designer to Scenic Designer Felix E. Cochren on productions at The McCarter Theatre, Geva Theatre, Syracuse Stage, The Goodman Theatre, Virginia Stage Company, and The Cleveland Playhouse. Mr. Penn is also a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and IASTE/United Scenic Artist Local 829 in the scenic design and Scenic Art category. In addition, Harlan made his operatic design debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago`s world premiere production of FACTOTUM (hip-hop opera) in January 2023. Mr. Penn is currently an Assistant Professor of Scenic Design at York College in Jamaica, Queens, New York.

STANLEY BROWN
-Stanley Brown is a legendary and award winning musical renaissance man. With an illustrious career spanning over 30 years, he has left an indelible mark on the world of music. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Brown`s musical journey has taken him from music creative to music executive. Working with acts like Run-DMC, LL Cool J, Bell Biv Devoe, Dru Hill, Israel Houghton, Donnie McClurkin, Karen Clark Sheard, TD Jakes, and John P Kee among many others. Brown was the co-founder and musical director of Hezekiah Walker’s Grammy award winning Love Fellowship Crusade Choir. He has also served as MD for artist like Melanie Fiona, Michelle Williams (of Destiny’s Child), Bebe Winans, and BET’s reality show Sunday Best. In 2000 Stanley launched his own company Timeless Music Group (TMG). With a commitment to pushing artistic boundaries and a sincere dedication to the transformative power of music, Brown continues to enrich the world with his sound. In every note played and every melody woven, Stanley Brown radiates a profound sense of purpose and unwavering faith. His music is more than just a composition; it’s a vessel that carries the many emotions of the human experience.
ZACHARY BRUNO
-Dr. Zachary Bruno is Professor of Music and Director of the Symphony Orchestra at Liberty University, and he is on staff at Thomas Road Baptist Church as Orchestra Director. From 2011 to 2022, Dr. Bruno was Professor of Music and Director of Orchestras and Bands at Skyline College in South San Francisco, California, where he conducted the Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Musical Theater. In addition to frequent orchestral and opera conducting in San Francisco, Boston, and New York, Zack`s credits as music director include productions of Cabaret, Guys and Dolls, The Drowsy Chaperone, Grease, Avenue Q, In the Heights, Into the Woods, and Chicago.

RYAN CLEMENS
Guest Actor
Originally from Wyoming, Ryan began his career in a Wild West show named "The Cowpoke Theatrical Company." His work includes twelve years with Norfolk`s Virginia Stage Company, twelve with the acclaimed improv group “Plan B Comedy,” and several seasons with both the Virginia Shakespeare Festival in Williamsburg and Tidewater Stage in Virginia Beach. Ryan holds a BA in Theatre from Western Washington University and an MFA in Acting from Regent University. He teaches for the Governor’s School for the Arts and Old Dominion University. His greatest passion comes in sharing the wit and wisdom of his famous relative Samuel L. Clemens in his one man show “Meet Mark Twain.”
Besides Mark Twain, some of Ryan`s favorite roles include Prospero in The Tempest; Brutus in Julius Caesar; Mr. Wormwood in Matilda; Mortimer in The Fantasticks; Balin in The Hobbit; Eddie in Fool For Love; Jaxton in The Thanksgiving Play; Arnold in The Boys Next Door, and Bob Cratchit or Jacob Marley or Old Joe or the Ghost of Christmas Present, or a myriad of other Dickensian characters from nine seasons working with Virginia Stage Company`s A Christmas Carol.
The best role he has ever gotten is that of Husband to his very kind and supportive wife Sonja.
ANTHONY LA BIANCA

After traveling the country, going from regional theatre to television, Anthony La Bianca has started an independent filmmaking production company with his long-time creative partner and co-producer, Bryce Burckart. Together, they are currently Writing/Producing/Directing the upcoming miniseries Periphery. Anthony has received accolades in performance both on the stage and on screen and will be establishing his next few years in Atlanta, Georgia as an actor and film producer. Anthony has a strong Christian faith and tells stories as a form of worship to make known and further the Kingdom of God.

BEN PERRY

Ben is thrilled to be coming back to Alluvion! Chicago: The House Theatre of Chicago, Shattered Globe. Regional: Alluvion Stage Company, Tecumseh! Outdoor Drama, Wolfbane Productions. After this he`ll be flying back to Chicago to be a part of IO Theatre`s Scholarship Program, where he`ll be working with an ensemble of six over the next year to learn and perform longform improv. When not working on something theatre related, you can find him reading, playing the guitar and harmonica, throwing pottery, spinning poi, or trying to meet an absurd amount of new people in the hopes of making a friend with a boat. @benstephenperry
