Biography

Dr. Buntin serves as an Associate Professor of aviation at Liberty University. Prior to joining Liberty University, he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Washington, D.C. for almost 20 years. He served as a program manager and supervisor within the Next Generation Air Transportation System Program Office which is the research arm of the FAA responsible for the modernization and transformation of the National Airspace System. Dr. Buntin managed high-profile research projects and programs associated with the development of Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast, Dynamic Required Navigation Performance, Trajectory Based Operations as well as several other technologies and concepts. He also served as a supervisor in the FAA Program Management Office which is responsible for the development and deployment of almost all the FAA ground equipment in the National Airspace System.

Prior to working for the FAA, Dr. Buntin worked at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas; and later at the Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. He served as Experiment Systems Manager, where he managed specialized medical experiments that flew on the Space Shuttle Orbiter and the Russian Mir Space Station. He was also Hardware Development Manager for the Human Research Facility which is currently flying on the International Space Station. Dr. Buntin performed applied research for the development of synthetic vision technology for general aviation aircraft as well as aircraft adaptive automation research.

Dr. Buntin served in the United States Air Force as a radar maintenance technician and later, the New Jersey Army National Guard as a helicopter crew chief.

Dr. Buntin and his wife Nanette pastored a church for 12 years and served as the Outreach Directors for two large churches in New Jersey and in Texas. He is also a musician (percussionist) and ministered in his churches as well as a member and president of a traveling evangelistic music ministry.
