Off-Campus Access: EZproxy


EZproxy is a system that allows Liberty University students, staff, and faculty at off-campus locations to access the Library’s online resources. Liberty is required by database publishers to confirm that the users are current faculty, staff or students of the university (see alumni access).

Logging into EZProxy

When you click on a Database or Article link from off-campus, you will be redirected to an EZProxy login page.

  • If EZproxy asks you to log in, use your Liberty username and password.
  • After logging in, the address bar will include "ezproxy"
    Example: http://www.liberty.edu.ezproxy.liberty.edu/index.cfm?PID=178

Login Problems

Military, Government, or Company Networks

If you access the Internet through a network at a company, government, or military base site, a firewall may restrict access to applications such as EZproxy. Only your network administrator can remedy that local issue.

Liberty Staff Members

If you are a Liberty University staff member connected through Virtual Private Network (VPN) you will need to disconnect your VPN connection and then log in to EZproxy to access library subscription databases.


Browsers

Generally, we recommend using the Firefox browser. You can download Firefox for free. If you are having problems viewing a page, try using another browser.

If you want to use Internet Explorer, you will need to enable "cookies." Cookies must be enabled before EZproxy (or Summon Search) will work with Internet Explorer 5.5 and above.

Internet Explorer Issues - Cookies

You may need to adjust your browser settings to enable "cookies." Cookies are small files stored on your computer by websites so that they can track where you are on the website, whether you have certain rights, etc.

Setting cookies in Internet Explorer:

  1. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options"
  2. Click on the "Privacy" tab
  3. Pull the slider down all the way so that the setting is "Accept all cookies." (Once you are able to access online Library resources, you can experiment with higher privacy settings to see which ones will still allow access.) 
    *Please note that the default Privacy setting in Internet Explorer prevents access to Library online resources.
  4. In the Privacy tab, make sure that "Block popups" is not selected. Some databases use popups and will not work if they are blocked.
  5. Click "Apply."
  6. Click "OK."

Close your browser, and then reopen it to ensure that the new settings are used.
