High School Programs

Aviation Maintenance Camp is completely free!

Lodging is not provided. Most students who participate in the Aviation Maintenance Camp are local to Lynchburg, VA, although we have had students who came from surrounding regions who stayed in a hotel with parents.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. Dietary restrictions and allergies are taken into consideration when such allergies are present.

There is parking available at the School of Aeronautics Aviation Maintenance facility at 939 Airport Road.

If you intend to leave your car at the facility, you will simply need to fill out the online guest parking registration form through LUPD (no need to print out the form and put it on your dashboard).

This camp is primarily focused on maintenance, although it will touch on flight.

The daily excursions vary from year to year and are not guaranteed to provide the exact same experiences as prior years. In past years students were able to experience aspects of flight through flight simulators within the School of Aeronautics and at Dynamic Aviation, and students have also had the chance to sit inside the cockpit of aircraft at Samaritan’s Purse.

The main focus for the camp is education and hands-on experience within the field of aviation maintenance.

Students are required to wear closed-toe shoes every day. T-shirts will be provided to students on their first day of camp and campers will be instructed which days to wear the provided shirts. There may be days that campers will need to wear long pants, although this will be communicated in advance.

Campers may be required to provide a United States issued social security number. This will only be required if one of the daily excursions is to a location that requires a background check for on-site visitors. If the camper does not have a U.S. social security number, they may still be able to participate in the trip although their tour or activity may be altered.

This kind of request will be communicated in advance.

Safety glasses will be provided to campers as needed for various activities.

We strive to provide engaging activities every day so that campers can get a glimpse of how vast the aviation maintenance industry is. We do this through daily excursions to facilities throughout the central Virginia and North Carolina area. No two years are the same, and there have been years that no two weeks are the same for camp. With this in mind, we cannot guarantee that any of the excursions listed below will be provided for the week that your camper will be with us. This list is simply to provide an example of the kind of excursions that have taken place historically.

There is parking available in either the Main Campus Parking Garage or the Runk and Pratt Parking Garage. Please reference the campus map for assistance.

Campers will participate in training flights on the DJI Mavic 3 Classic and the DJI Avata 2.

There will be a demonstration done by our trained staff on the DJI Matrice 30T.

Students are required to wear closed-toe shoes every day. This part of the dress code is for safety purposes. A student will not be permitted to fly if they are not wearing proper clothing for safety. All clothing must also be in accordance with the Liberty Way.

A water bottle, sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses are recommended.

Campers will stay on Liberty University’s campus. Check-in each day will be in the School of Aeronautics Main Lobby located in DeMoss Hall on the second floor just inside the Grand Lobby.
