Biography
Tom taught music theory and piano lesson since his undergraduate days at Hope College where he enrolled initially as a chemistry major. He continued teaching at both the Cleveland Institute of Music and at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Tom has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Phoenix, Mid-Continent University, and Indiana Wesleyan University. Tom served as an interim Minister of Music at historic Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville, KY, where he wrote, produced, and directed the 24th Annual Living Christmas Tree Celebration in 13 live services. He has also served over 30 years as the Minister of Music in churches in Kentucky, Indiana, and California. Tom served as the convention pianist at the 150th Anniversary of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, and plays devotional piano concerts in Churches, Christian Retreat Centers and assisted living facilities to this day. Tom has written A Theology of Music for Worship Derived from the Book of Revelation, edited by Dr. Robin Leaver (Metuchen, NJ and London, England: Scarecrow Press (University Press of America), 1995.
Tom has been married to his original-issue bride Diane since 1976 and they have two sons. Tom used to run 50 miles each week but now walks or bikes each day with Diane. Tom retired from his full time church position in Florida in March 2023, and relocated to Kentucky to enjoy more time with family.
