Biography

While having taught Pre-k through 12th grade students in both public and private schools for almost 18 years, Dr. Harris facilitated and nurtured learning experiences in subject areas such as general music, band, orchestra, chorus, music history, and handbells. His middle and high school ensembles have competed in local, state, regional, and national competitions. He holds teaching licenses in Virginia, South Carolina, and Maine. While a teacher, Dr. Harris served as a music and worship pastor for seven years. In ministry, he directed several orchestra and choir groups for performance opportunities such as with worship leader DC Washington and performer David Phelps. He also had the opportunity to accompany on piano Nicol Sponberg, formerly of Selah. Dr Harris is the creator and host of MusEd: a podcast for music educators. Dr. Harris is an active member of VMEA, HEAV, and NAfME. It is his desire that all music educators, whether active or inactive, continue to contribute to the field of music education. His areas of interest in music education research include rural education, curriculum and development, professional development, and special education.
