Sherry Montgomery, B.M., M.M.E, D.M.E

Biography

Dr. Sherry Montgomery is a passionate educator, performer, and conductor devoted to equipping the next generation of vocal performers, worship leaders, and music educators. Drawing from a distinguished performance career in the Washington, D.C. metro area, she has been featured as a soloist with The City Choir of Washington and has earned recognition in numerous national competitions. Her honors include top placements in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Competition, finalist distinctions in The Vocal Arts D.C. and New York Oratorio competitions, and first prize in the Shenandoah Bach–Handel Competition. With over twenty years of experience teaching and directing choral ensembles in both public and private school settings, Dr. Montgomery has led her choirs to consistent Superior ratings and recognition at state and national levels. Her work as a choral conductor and vocal music educator spans the Northern Virginia area, where she has also directed numerous musical theatre productions and mentored countless young performers. She has presented research and advocacy in “Choral Vocology” and music education advocacy at district and state conferences, serving as the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Northern Virginia regional chair. In addition to her academic leadership, she is an active guest clinician, adjudicator, and vocal coach for festivals and workshops. 

Her students have gone on to achieve notable success—earning admission to prestigious graduate and summer programs, performing on and off Broadway, and appearing as finalists on NBC’s The Voice, FOX’s American Idol, and Next Broadway Sensation. Many also serve as worship leaders and music educators throughout the country. Specializing in both contemporary and classical vocal styles, Dr. Montgomery is a Level II certified teacher in Somatic Voicework©, The LoVetri Method. Her professional affiliations have included the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), The Voice Foundation, the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA), the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA). Before joining the faculty at Liberty University, Dr. Montgomery taught at Patrick Henry College and Shenandoah Conservatory
