Biography

Dr. Sherry Montgomery is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of vocal performers, worship leaders, and music educators. With an extensive background as a professional performer in the Washington, D.C. metro area, she has made a name for herself as a soloist with The City Choir of Washington. Her vocal talent has garnered numerous accolades, including high placements in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Competition, finalist honors in both The Vocal Arts D.C. and New York Oratorio competitions, and the distinction of winning the Shenandoah Bach Handel Competition.

In addition to her performance career, Dr. Montgomery has directed various choral ensembles and musical theater productions throughout Northern Virginia, spanning Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties. She has contributed significantly to the field by presenting research on “Choral Vocology” and choral music education advocacy at both district and state levels, notably during her tenure as the ACDA Northern Virginia regional chairperson.

Specializing in both contemporary and classical vocal styles, Dr. Montgomery is a Level II certified teacher in Somatic Voicework©, the LoVetri Method. Her professional affiliations include the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), The Voice Foundation, Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA), the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA).

Her students have achieved remarkable successes, gaining admission to prestigious summer and master’s programs, performing on and off Broadway, and competing as finalists on NBC’s “The Voice,” FOX’s “American Idol,” and “Next Broadway Sensation.” Many have also excelled as worship leaders in churches nationwide.

Before joining Liberty University, Dr. Montgomery taught at Patrick Henry College and Shenandoah Conservatory. She currently serves as a Vocal Music Educator at Liberty University and directs the Women’s Chorus.
