Larry Seipp, D.M.E.
Dr. Larry Seipp is Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He leads the university athletic bands—including the 250-member “Spirit of the Mountain” Marching Band and pep bands—conducts the University Band and teaches music education. Under his direction, the marching band has gained national recognition, performing at the Boca Raton Bowl, the VRBO Fiesta Bowl, and earning an invitation to the 2025 Presidential Inaugural Parade.
Before joining Liberty, Dr. Seipp directed award-winning bands at Liberty Christian Academy and E.C. Glass High School. As a trumpet performer and educator, he has taught at James Madison University, Eastern Mennonite University, and Liberty University. He performs regularly in the Lynchburg area and plays with the Lynchburg Symphony.
With over 25 years in Virginia’s music community, Dr. Seipp remains active as a performer, educator, adjudicator, and clinician. His research explores how nonmusical factors, such as demographics, affect band assessments in Virginia, and he advocates for value-added evaluation methods in assessing band directors and student learning outcomes. He is most proud to see his current and former students carry their love of music forward – using their gifts to glorify God and serve others.
He is a member of the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, VMEA, NAfME, ITG, and CBDNA.
