Kevin Haglund, B.M, M.A., Ph.D.
Biography
Dr. Kevin Haglund brings over twenty-five years of pastoral leadership and performance experience to his dual roles as Pastor of Worship Ministries at Heritage Baptist Church (Lynchburg, VA) and adjunct professor in the Liberty University School of Music. He earned his Bachelor of Music (1997) and Master of Arts in Music & Worship (2017) from Liberty University and completed his Ph.D. in Practical Theology at Columbia International University in 2024.
His master’s thesis, Worship Renewal Through Discipleship: How Discipleship and Mission Affects Our Worship, and doctoral dissertation, A Practical Theology of the Role of Emotion in Corporate Musical Worship, reflect his passion for exploring how theological principles, discipleship, and emotional engagement intersect with congregational singing.
Since 1995, Kevin has served as a full-time Worship Pastor in churches in multiple states with varying worship styles and sizes, ranging from church plants to several thousand. In these contexts, he has planned and led corporate worship services, directed choirs, ensembles, and orchestras, produced large-scale community musical events, overseen multiple worship staff members, and mentored and discipled emerging worship leaders. At Heritage Baptist Church, he works alongside a gifted team of musicians and technical staff to create Christ-centered and theologically grounded worship services.
As an adjunct professor in the School of Music since January 2018, Dr. Haglund has taught private voice lessons and several core music and worship courses, ranging from worship choir to worship ministry organization and leadership. He has presented workshops at regional conferences on vocal styles for local church worship ministry and creative worship planning.
A native Minnesotan, Kevin and his wife Suzanne, reside in the Lynchburg area. They have three adult children—Ellie (and husband Brendon and daughter Georgia of Watertown, NY), Sarah (Nashville, TN), and Ethan (and wife Tessa of Moneta, VA)—each of whom is a Liberty University graduate. When he’s not leading worship or teaching, he enjoys musical performances, attending LU sports, vacations with family, and mentoring college students in both life and leadership.
