Biography

Dr. Gabriel Miller is an award-winning performing artist and educator.  Completing his undergraduate studies in music at Florida State University, he went on to complete a Master of Church Music degree at Lee University, as well as the M.A. and Ph.D. in Music Theory at Ohio State. Additionally, he recently completed the Doctor of Worship Studies (D.W.S.) at Liberty University.

Professor Miller has given papers at the University of Minnesota, the Cincinnati CCM, and Yale University, as well as various regional theory conferences such as Music Theory Southeast (MTSE), Music Theory Society of the Mid-Atlantic (MTSMA), Texas Society for Music Theory (TSMT) and the South-Central Society for Music Theory (SCSMT). His research in function theory has recently been cited in the Journal of Music Theory.

In addition to his work in research and scholarship, Dr. Miller has served on the faculty of the University of Louisiana (Lafayette) and Louisiana College. At the latter, he also served as Chair of the Division of Fine Arts and Media.

Dr. Miller, along with his wife and fellow SOM faculty member, Dr. Samantha Miller, serves as worship pastor at All Peoples Church in Lynchburg. The church recently released its first live worship album of original songs called The Sound of Revival.

Dr. Miller serves as a professor of music theory and worship in the School of Music, and he was named Associate Dean of the Center for Music Education & Performance in Fall 2020.
