Liberty University School of Law was pleased to host the Virginia Sixth Congressional District debate featuring Democratic nominee Andy Schmookler and his opponent, incumbent Congressman Bob Goodlatte on Tuesday, October 16.
The debate was held in the law school’s Supreme Courtroom and was co-sponsored by the Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce, Liberty University School of Law, and Liberty University Helms School of Government.
Shawn Akers, Dean of the Helms School of Government, moderated the debate. Akers holds a Juris Doctor degree from Regent University School of Law, a Master of Arts in Public Policy from Regent University School of Government, and a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies from Northeast Louisiana University. He has published a variety of scholarly, policy, and opinion articles. Prior to coming to Liberty University, he practiced law as a litigation attorney in Louisiana for eight years.
