Biography
Dr. Thang is a professional engineer, licensed in the State of Louisiana and Texas. He has over 13 years of engineering design and analysis experience in the industry, specializing in the design and analysis of oil and gas offshore structures. Earlier in his career, he also analyzed and designed several single and multi-stories reinforced concrete residential buildings with footings and pile foundations. In his ocean structures engineering design, he has to ensure the structures can withstand operating and extreme wind, waves, and current forces and ensure that the structures have sufficient capacities and also ensure that the pile foundation below seabed capacities are adequate.
Dr. Thang’s research work includes fatigue hot spot stress, steel-concrete-steel studded bonds sandwich shells for arctic offshore structures, steel-polymer-steel sandwich pipelines for earthquake fault zones, strain-based design, polymer and steel materials, fracture mechanics, finite element method, and suction caisson foundations for wind turbine structures. His research works were experimental-based and finite element method numerical calculations.
